a new barn owl .... my children call her 'blondie' ...

barn owls again ....

a new barn owl has been born in my house ...



this one seems younger somehow than the others ...



i changed the way I did the eyes and I am very pleased with the effect. But who is it this time?

Molly Owls new job ....

Molly-across-the-pond sent work of her new job ...



she looks quite the part in this lovely autumnal library display ... oh look, we have some Jane Hissy books at home, including 'HOOT'!



just have to keep very still in here, admits Molly ...

molly owl flies to new home ....

no more will I gaze upon this hand-stitched plumage ...



or see this charming face peeping out at me from all manner of places ...



gone is the guardian of books and children small ...



and so molly got one last hug, and was sent on her way, across the pond ...



then we were lucky enough to be given these - oh dear, those don't look very nice!



but these odd objects were in fact some owl pellets found in the wild, and contained delicate treasures ....



and then molly arrived at her new home, safe and sound, her new perch looks just right !

finished molly owl number 2 ....

changed a few things since the fist molly-owl ...



lighter claws ...



still did some face shading - doing that makes me nervous!



lovely big, vintage buttons for wing joints ...



and she still has a lovely soft fluffy barn owl face ....

i shape the barn owl face with needle sculpting using strong thread ... can you see the shape appearing? the lovely dense fur I am using here looks like fine feathers ...



next, insert the glass eyes ...
it looks cute even jyst like this, with no beak!



and here is molly the barn owls face, complete with some shading ...



and wings are added too, with button joints ...



she is looking very cute already ... legs and feel next ....

making a second molly owl plush .... WIP!

Molly the Barn Owl soft sculpture, finished!

Now on display in Pilgrim House, Hope Square, as part of the Dorset Seafood festival ... today only!

I will be in town, dressed as a Lobster again, after lunch!

I love to work on a new project, and a dear friend asked me to have a go at Molly the Barn owl, you do know about molly and her babies don't you?

I started by looking at owl images and owl videos a lot, and then made a few drawings, to help me feel my way around the shapes ...



I love hunting out the fabrics and textures i might use ...



a hint of the gently face of a barn owl appears ...
