New white goat doll ...

I love these new white goats. I made  two of them and one was traded with an artist for fabulous stained glass art!

I want to call these goats Abe, because they make me think of Amish Buggy Drivers ....

An american friend sent me a copy of this magazine ...



Inside, not knowing that I had submitted my work to a request for steam-punk dolls, she saw a familiar face!



And so she bought me my very own copy!

and so I made my goat all steampunk, for an etsy-plush-team challenge, and we would both love it if you would go and vote for him in the final round of the competition - it's goat versus blimp!

well they belong to my goat doll, now fully dressed and ready for inventing adventures, and not to mention getting a few votes here - on the plush team blog...

you can read more about my ideas behind this piece here, in the Plush Team Etsy shop. I had a great time deciding what do do with a selection of tiny watch parts, and think they made good buttons on his fancy waistcoat!

I think goats are rather eccentric beings anyway, perhaps it's the beard and sideburns?



I realised how much I enjoy making little gadgets myself, creating goggles from suede 'blind' fabric, real suede and some thin gold coloured 'pleather' along with some hand tinted acetate lenses to keep out the glare!

WIP - goat doll ... in need of clothes!

The basic goat doll is now finished, heat to toe, now he just cries out for some fantastic steam punk gadgetry and of course, something to wear!



some metal, and machine-like buttons helped me to joint him, and I made his limbs and face from a lovely Harris tweed ... don't tell the Harris tweed people I felted it in my washing machine though!



all four limbs are very pose-able, of course, and he appreciated this as he bent to crop my lawn ...



and sat back, to enjoy the spring sunshine!

the categories were characters, or gadgets and I went with characters ...



been poking around in my fabrics looking to create suitable steam-punk attire for this goat character ...



and i picked up some pretty little cogs for embellishments ...

the sneaky eyes of groats really appeal to me. I made these sneaky eyes out of copper wrapped buttons ... this will be a plush-team-challenge-sort-of-goat ...

british primitive goats ... WIP

i have been sewing some goats inspired by those that live on portland, dorset ...

"The Trial

The Portland Grazing Goat Trial aims to test the effectiveness of British primitive goats for controlling native and non-native scrub. The trial area covers East Weares and Penn’s Weare on the east coast of Portland. This is an area of exposed limestone cliffs, old quarries, boulders and thin soils which supports a mix of scrub and open rock and grassy areas. The scrub is steadily encroaching on the open areas and the trial aims to use the goats to control the spread of the shrub areas.

This project is funded by Natural England and is a community partnership between Island Volunteers for You (IVY), Kingston Maurward College, and the Portland Ranger Project.

Goat Welfare

The goats have free range over the Weares, but will be carefully monitored. They will get water from the food they eat and natural water supplies. There are good natural boundaries to stop the goats roaming. There is plenty of natural shelter available.

The goats will be checked regularly by IVY volunteers and Kingston Maurward College staff."
