Susie

Dorchester Susie has captured more than a few hearts since her arrival in the town. When I discovered her I offered to design a postcard to raise funds for a local charity and Feral Cat Care Dorset have been benefiting from this modest venture. I’ve also posted some of the cards on request, so this is an option if you live far
Away.

Susie started out by exploring Weymouth and even visited Portland so I wrote a story for #50preciouswords about her and created an illustration too.

If you want to find out more about Susie pop along to her Facebook group, Susie’s Travels In Dorchester!

Pet portraits in time for Christmas

These two were a little challenging because sadly the pets were no longer with us so I had limited subject matter to work with. The dog, Moppet (such a lovely name), was worked from a computer print out that had been sent as a Christmas Card.

This sweet little Gemma is the spitting image of our cat, Topsy. We still have Topsy, when she cares to come home and we are so proud that she’s reached 7 years!

Cats ...

Topsy came back! She was a little skittish. She came back after I posted about her all over the internet. She must therefore be stalking me online

I finished this lovely cat portrait, and sent it off for a very happy birthday, I hope!

From tiny to huge! Pet Portraits ...

From this tiny well loved degu, captured in black and white ...

To a colourful calico, who I have created in exchange for some fabulous hand knitted gloves ...

And via this special horse, who I had to keep off line until the birthday when he was presented. I will probably go back to working on my book now ..

Mr and Mrs Naughty Cat ...

There they are, brother and sister actually, and butter wouldn't melt!

Now immortalised by my box of German pencils and my sensetive hand ...

I often fill in 'flashed' eyes as I did here for Mr Cat making his match more with his sisters in this lovely group shot.

A Better Distraction ...

One of the better kinds of distractions arrived at our house at the end of October ....

Meet Topsy, a splodgy little kitten with a curious nature! She play hard and sleeps hard too ...

So nice to have a little companion on a school morning, or a cold winters evening ...

And she is growing like a weed! May prove useful to promote my work. On the other hand, might just eat it!

Dorset Sea food, and Big Cats!

Saturday saw Dorset Sea Food Festival cancelled, so ther was nothing for it but to cover a friend in duct tape, as one does!

You need a duct tape dummy, to make a well fitting fursuit, as worn by yours truly in this fun picture!

We must have so many pictures taken of us that we will never see - I hand out Artwey leaflets in return for our poses! I even got kissed, and there are always people who would like a hug!

And now you know why I altered those fine waders!

Spirit of the Sea again!

I am getting ready to exhibit with Artwey this weekend at  Dorset Sea Food Festival

I have been given an enormous pair of waders ... so long i have to turn the tops down to pull them up!

And I have been busy altering them, too - what could i be doing with these then? Any ideas?

Fab Cat Purse!

This Cat purse is finished and given as a gift, I made it from lovely pieces of felted knitting, when a friend's blanket got washed wrong. The acrylic squares went slack and stringy but the woollen ones felted beautifully!

Tinsel the Cat, all hand stitched!

Big Cats in Weymouth - Spirit of the Sea 2011 ...

The tiger returned to Weymouth yet again, and this time THE CAT was ready for him!

It was certainly a lovely day for a Harbour-side festival!

Until some one pointed out all that water, to the Cat! YIKES!

Most of the public were very taken with our furry visitors, and the felines must have posted for hundreds of photographs!

And there was time for a few lovely Cat-cuddles too!

What did you do at the weekend? XXX

those ARE cat's ears!

and that's a little pink cat's nose!

creating the eyes, cutting the shapes for irises from painted acetate ...

and into the head they go!

nore of a fox, that muzzle is much too long!

I started to shorten the muzzle, bit by bit, and added more foam to shape the skull ...

i made fabric and fur ears, worked more ont he shape of things like the eye holes and the muzzle ...

then today I got the glue gun out, and burned myself rather a lot!

(the thermostat may have broken on my gun!)

fur and feathery greens!

today I buried my hands in super soft fur ...

and i spent a long time cutting shapes into this for and a fluffy white one ...

also did some green things, eating this lovely fresh lettuce for out tea, harvested under the watchful eye of our chickens ...

the children picked some of our gooseberries, and removed some of the fallen-too-soon apples from the lawn...
